Can I transfer an existing IRA or 401(k) into an SDIRA?

Yes, you can transfer an existing IRA or roll over a 401(k) into a Self-Directed IRA (SDIRA) at American Estate & Trust (AET).

IRA Transfers

To transfer a Traditional IRA into an SDIRA at AET, log into the online portal and initiate a transfer request. This custodian-to-custodian transfer is the preferred method for tax-deferred movement of funds.

401(k) Rollovers

You can roll over a Traditional 401(k) into an SDIRA:

  • Direct Rollover: The funds are sent directly from the old custodian to AET. You initiate this by logging into the online portal.
  • Indirect Rollover: You will need to contact the previous custodian to request the funds. Once you receive the distribution, you must deposit it into your SDIRA within 60 days to avoid penalties. A rollover certification document is required.
